the music of brendon anderegg is a hall of mirrors, multilayered and self-obscuring. largely filtered through mountains, his pioneering electronic project with koen holtkamp, anderegg emerged as a solo artist in the late ‘90s. in recent years, anderegg has become sought after for his film scoring and audio work with his studio telescope audio, contributing to emmy-nominated films 102 minutes that changed america and 9/11: the days after for the history channel, and working with clients from espn to laura poitras’ praxis films. he returns now with june on thrill jockey.

here comes another release by echologist aka brendon moeller. brendon did several releases over the year and here comes the next bomb!! these tracks were recorded in autumn of 2016 in brendon’s home studio that is conveniently located in the basement of his home in upstate new york. the tracks were made using a combination of hardware and software. the protocol, well, sync all machines via midi and cv and then jam. once a jam seems to take on a form he multitrack record all elements in ableton and then create a final arrangement and mix down.

for the labels ninth release, deep a & biris black crow records revisits one that helped establish the labels direction back in the imprints first year. bcr003, insular realms by fellow israeli producer hakimonu, was praised by many including resident advisor, who said the ep proved his off-kilter take on techno and house is as vibrant and inviting as ever. now in 2017, deepa & biri have invited mind against, luigi tozzi and echologist (aka dub techno veteran brendon moeller) to all rework the original version of insular realms for 2017. first up are life & death’s mind against, with one of the fognini brothers most direct techno productions yet, with a mid-track moment of calm before the intensity resumes. luigi tozzi, the rome-based producer who has had previous outings on dynamic reflection and dino sabatinis outis music, contributes the second remix. taking the lead from the originals more ethereal moments, his version is dreamy & almost wistful as it propels along its shaking rhythm. the b-side offers two takes from brendon moeller in his echologist guise, with a dub mix that twists the original into an acid-inflected track that slowly ratchets up the tension over its seven minutes, while the reshape breaks things down into a churning rhythm peppered with flashes f off kilter sonic details.

lucidflow make a ninth journey onto wax with label co-owner nadja lind s tribe dub , and no punches have been pulled with the array of top drawer remixers on board - featuring brendon moeller, tigerskin & jack jenson, and terry lee brown jnr. nadja s original fires on all cylinders with a frantic sub-bass assault that isn t going to be happy unless your lungs have been thoroughly bruised by a main room s speaker stack. as the bass tumbles, phasing dub stabs gracefully arc into the stratosphere and back again.

with a pair of sturdy releases behind them already melbourne s short black crew call upon lesser-known talent rustal to deliver the goods in a deep, techy style. before the original productions dub maestro brendon moeller drops in to deliver a version of -privilege- that heads into the echo chamber and doesn t let up for the duration. it s a powerful, immersive beast of a track that provides a fitting alternative to the uptempo, melodic thrust of the original version. -forwards backwards down- pushes the chords to the front of the mix and jacks up the drums for a proper fist-shaking workout.

south african born, new york living brendon moeller, man of a thousand guises - including beat pharmacy, echologist and mono blanco - is a prolific producer known especially for his hard yet dubwise brand of techno. founder of the prolific steadfast label, moeller has releases on a number of excellent imprints including echocord and soul people. for zamzam, beat pharmacy indulged his deep love of heady dubwise, crafting two totally unique and uncompromisingly experimental tracks that provide a window into a singular creative soul.

the martinez brothers cuttin headz returns with a new ep from the butcha, entitled 10001 and backed with two remixes from matrixxman. phil moffa aka the butcha is a new york city based musician, producer and engineer most notably known for his works alongside dj spider and anthony parasole for sublevel sounds / plan b recordings and alongside seth troxler for hypercolour. here we see him return to the fledgling cuttin headz imprint with his idiosyncratic take on raw, emotive house music following his destination void release alongside dj spider and brendon moeller last year. up first are two originals from the butcha, the first of which 99 prince st. lays focus on echoing atmospherics, snaking rhodes and shuffling dubbed out percussion while the latter, 6 hubert st. pivots towards an amalgamation an upfront organic rhythm alongside a weighty low end drive and wandering synth swells. to complete the package san franciscos matrixxman delivers two interpretations, firstly the acidized mix which as the name would suggest draws on squelching 303 lines layered over processed snippets from the original before the digital bonus transhuman mix closes on an arpeggio fuelled techno tip.
